International Bartending Competition

Diageo Reserve World Class brought together 12 mixologists from India’s leading hotels and bars to compete for the title of India’s Bartender of the Year at Diageo Reserve World Class 2017. World Class is a platform that nurtures local bartending talent by enabling the participants with relevant knowledge and skill to create World Class cocktails. Now in its 9th year in India, the competition brought together nearly 300 bartenders to compete for the title.

Over the last six months, a number of mixologists from all over the nation competed with each other at various regional level competition to finally make it in the finals the completion was judged by  Donald Colville, Diageo Global Scotch Ambassador – Malts, Nicholas Ord, Diageo Reserve Brand Ambassador and Nikhil Agarwal, Sommelier & CEO, All Things Nice.

The finalists had to come up with their versions of the classic cocktails using the luxury spirits from the Diageo Reserve portfolio namely Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, Johnnie Walker Platinum Label 18, Talisker 10YO, the Singleton of Glen Ord 12YO, Tanqueray 10, CÎROC and Ketel One. There were three rounds in total, they included - The Blind Tasting Round, The Speed Round and The Mystery Box Round.  Rohan Rege, Paasha, JW Marriott, Pune won the competition and will now head to Mexico to compete in the international finals.

The final was held at St. Regis in Mumbai. The competition started in the morning and went on till the evening.  With the first contestant itself I knew that I was in for a treat. The gusto and the enthusiasm of each contestant intrigued me and I didn’t leave the bar counter even for a second. The first round consisted of them stirring up two drinks in ten minutes. Each one of them had come up with a unique twist to the drink, and the homemade ingredients created by the contestants made the drinks even better. It is always a delight to see someone own a drink in such a special way. Out of the 12 finalists, six moved on the next round.

The second round was the most exciting one and my favorite. Check out the video below to experience what I am talking about.

The six finalists had to stir up eight drinks in six minutes. The rush, excitement, thrill was amazing! It was not just the contestants who were nervous and trying to get everything right and in time but also us, the viewers who were on the edge of our seats.

The third round was the mystery box round, where the top three had to come up with two drinks using the ingredients in the box and one of their signature drink. Again! They did a marvelous job! They even used Carrot and Jamun juice in the drinks; I would have never thought that ingredients like these could be used to mix such delicious cocktails.

Rohan Rege from Paasha – JW Marriott, Pune emerges as the winner. He impressed the judges with his knowledge, skill and creativity as he effortlessly created some amazing drinks.

The mixologists, I must say are very interactive and can chat you up in no time. The confidence that they have is charming and the way they show their skills in a bar is stunning.

I was there the whole day watching it from the start to end, and never once did I get bored. (I wish there were more chairs around the bar though, my heels were killing me)

The Global Finals for Diageo Reserve World Class will take place in Mexico City later this year, and I am excited for Rohan Rege, hope he wins!

Poetry by Love and Cheesecake, Bandra - Review

If you are looking for a chic place for your breakfast with the girls, this might be the place for you. The pretty looking place also serves yummy food. I have honestly only tried desserts here and they are delicious!

I am soon planning to go there for breakfast as well.

It is a little cramped but they do have a seating area upstairs, I honestly like to sit on the ground floor.

I also tried their cold coffee, nice but not excellent. Nothing extraordinary but on a hot summer Mumbai afternoon, this can be really refreshing and welcoming.

We had a Belgian Chocolate Marquise, Devil’s Desire and a Hazelnut Coffee Frappe

All of it was absolutely yum, the Belgian Marquise was soft and creamy with an almost melt in mouth texture. The Devil’s Desire come in a bar form with a browny core, again, super delicious. The frappe however was average.

Make sure to take a couple of pictures at this place for your Instagram, the place is beautiful.

Why I Wear MakeUp

Wearing makeup has somehow ended up being related to asking for male attention, the first time a girl wears a lipstick or puts on a  bit of makeup, the first assumption is that she is dressing up for a man.

That is so not true; we live in an age where we do not need validation from other people anymore. Yes, I would love if you will double tap on my Instagram picture but I am wearing dressing up because I want to see myself look hot AF every time I walk past a showroom or a car and see my reflection in the mirror. That double tap is just a consolation prize.

Every time I am bored to get to work, I look forward to the dressing up part. It motivates me to get out of bed and get dressed. It adds fun to the monotony.

Just a change of outfit can add so much more to the way you look and feel. A pretty little dress, boyfriend jeans, overalls or the feminine little flowy skirt, ethnic kurti and saari or the basic jeans and tshirt, they all emote such a variety of emotions and feel. You wear a pretty little dress on the day you especially feeling low, it is going to work as a quick little pick-me-up.

I know it may seem a little shallow, but in the world and generation when nice and happy things are so difficult to come by, why not do a small little thing for yourself so that you feel good about yourself. I don’t even know if I am making sense to you right now, but if you are still understanding me, let me know in the comments below.

Obviously I don’t wear makeup every day, or force myself to wear makeup and dress up every day. There are times when I absolutely don’t want to do anything and that’s exactly what I do – I don’t do anything!

I walk out of the door just the way I am, and still feel great about myself.

I am not judging people who do not like to dress up, each to his own. But it isn’t fair to judge people who enjoy the process.

Oriflame The One Lip Sensation Vinyl Gel - Review

Oriflame recently launched their new The One Lip Sensation Vinyl Gel Lipsticks. I had been trying them on for a week now and here’s what I think about them. First up, when I first saw the colours, I thought they would not complement my skin tone. I was so wrong; each colour is so beautiful and goes well my dusky skin tone. I think the colours would complement Indian skin tones very well.

The product gives a smooth glossy finish and it looks stunning.  I skip the entire eye makeup as this product just gives me a great look. One product and I feel like my makeup is done for the day. The brush is also cleverly designed as it allows you to apply the gel lipstick properly and evenly.  It is flat on both sides allowing you to press it against your lips and apply the colour in one smooth sleek motion.

A post shared by Pooja Mahimkar (@poojamahimkar) on

It is super glossy but the gloss does wear off after sometime, however the colour does stay on your lips all day long! It still is a little sticky, but unless you press your lips together, you wouldn’t even feel the stickiness. The lipstick is moisturising and I have noticed that I haven’t used a lip balm whenever I use this, I don’t feel the need for a lip balm.

The colour will transfer but it still manages to stay on your lips all day long. After a while it may settle in your cracks, at such times, I just touch up the lipstick or use a little lipbalm to even the product out ( I use the lip balm, just to even the colour out so that the lip cracks don’t show. I do not require it for moisturising. The lipstick does that job.)

The have launched 7 shades and retail for INR 489/- for 5ml of product

You can buy the product from here:

Ling’s Pavilion, Colaba - Review

After hearing about this place a couple of times, went there for a quick lunch with colleagues. This place might not look that great from outside, saying from experience, even after noticing this places for ages, I never really ventured in because it looked a little out of place. Glad that this one day I did walk in, it was like time travelling back to the 70s. You are greeted with a tree, a small little pond with a small little bridge over it and a lot of fishes in the pond. I loved the old world charm immediately. I went there again recently for dinner as well.

The food is yum. Unfortunately I completely forgot about taking food pictures.  They serve some nice old school Chinese food. Perfect comfort food it is. They also have tons of options, you get chicken, sea food, beef, pork, you name it and it is there.I love Chinese, and I am sure that every time I crave some good ol Chinese, I am sure I would end up here often.

The portions are enough for two. The staff is friendly.

They do not have valet parking and the lane is generally crowded, I would suggest you keep this in mind when visiting this place.

Four Simple Ways To Save A Lot Of Money

We all deal with money issues, we are not poor but most of the time we are broke. I, being an impulsive buyer, face a lot of issues managing my money.
I am just listing down a few things that I do on a daily basis, to help save as much money possible. Hoping this would help you out as well.

Investing In Investment Items
Fashion keeps changing every season, and it is quite expensive to keep updating your wardrobe every season. It makes much more sense to identify your style and buy clothes that you can style all year long. To keep up with the latest trends, you can buy just one piece and style it in various ways.
You can also invest in the classics, which will cost you more but will last you for a long time and will never go out of style.
Never buy anything that you are not sure of, before buying anything, think of 3 ways you can wear it. Style them in your head and if you can manage three outfits then you can go ahead and buy it.
If you really like something but are sure that it is not your style. Don’t buy it. You may buy it thinking that if you own it, you’ll wear it; chances are that you will not wear it more than 5 times.

No To Drinks
Whenever we go out, we tend to order a cocktail or a mocktail just to enjoy your meal. Avoid doing that, you don’t need a drink with every meal. Water is just fine.
In India, you end up paying a lot more than what the menu indicates. You have a number of taxes and there are two separate taxes for your meals and your drinks.
Try to limit your drinking to once or twice a week.
Think ahead, if you know that you have an event or a party or a social event coming your way, make that your cheat day and drink on that day.

Unsubscribe
Unsubscribe to all the offers, deals and sale alerts that you get. They make you want to shop even when you anyway weren’t planning to shop.

Want vs Need
Focus on spending on your wants needs and not wants. Before buying anything, ask yourself if this is your need or want. Being minimalistic is the key.

Can I Eat Please?

It is one of those days when she is stressed and tired. Or maybe, nothing has happened really. She is just craving some yum food.

She checks her bags and finds two apples in it. She knows that she should eat that but she really wants something yummy and nice and greasy and spicy and fattening! Oh no! Not fattening.

“I ate healthy yesterday, I can eat something now and then not eat any junk the entire day. I have almost finished 1.5 liters of water also today,” she thought to herself.

“It’s lunch time, if I eat something now, I am sure I’ll burn it off in the day. I am not really that fat you know. I am curvy, and curvy is nice,” she reasoned.

She knew she had recently put on 2kgs and now she was scared.

She gave in to the craving and had a proper lunch thali in the office cafeteria. The minute the plate was empty, she felt guilt creeping on to her.

Who has made these rules anyway?

Why are we told to watch out weight, figure, size etc. so much?

All she needed was a little encouragement and assurance that she is beautiful, sexy, pretty and hot just the way she is.

Guys, if you are reading this, please do let the women in your life know that she is amazing and beautiful and that you love her just the way she is. You have no idea how much we girls beat ourselves up.

Oriflame SkinPro Cleansing System – Review

I started using Oriflame SkinPro Cleansing System around a month and a half back. I did to a first impressions on my Instagram (you can follow me there for more such videos. Id is @poojamahimkar). I wanted to give it proper time, use the product daily and then review it, thus such a delay.

I was contemplating buying a product like this for a while now, I was planning to get clearsonic but then I got to know that my trusted Oriflame also has a cleansing system, and thus chose to get one from Oriflame. I have been using Oriflame products for a while now and have never been disappointed.

Getting to the review, I have been loving what it does to my skin. I use it every night after removing my makeup. You can use it to remove your make up as well, but I noticed that the brush gets dirty with all the makeup. Also you cannot use this to remove your eye makeup, thus I prefer using it after removing my makeup so when I use this, it removes all the makeup that I couldn’t get out in the first go.

The brush is super soft! It is very gentle and still manages to give you a clean face. Trust me, I was worried that the bristles and the brush will be harsh on my skin, but it is far, very far from harsh.
This product is god sent! I am generally very lazy and tired to clean my face and get rid of all the makeup. This product makes sure that I go to bed with a clean, clear, makeup free face. Using it is also fun and thus it doesn’t feel like a big task and I have noticed that ever since I got this, I have been sticking to my night time routine.

How I use SkinPro
I use my make up remover and remove all the makeup
Wash my face with a mild face wash. Rinse thoroughly.
Apply a little facewash on the face, wet the brush head and use it. Rinse thoroughly.
The brush head rotates, and you are supposed to move it around in circular motion on your face and neck. The machine automatically stops after 1 minute.
After rinsing my face and patting it dry I apply my night cream and a dab coconut oil on my face.

There is no point in using good skincare products if your pores are clogged and the makeup has not come off right. A well cleansed skin helps better absorbs the products that you are applying, thus making sure your skin gets the most of everything you put on your skin. Even if you are not much into skincare products, a well cleansed skins, allows it to breath and throughout the night and thus gives you nice glowing skin in the morning.

This product removes makeup, dirt, dead skin cells and impurities from the pores. It also stimulates blood circulation giving you a beautiful radiant glow.

SkinPro has two speed settings; I use it on the fast mode.  The machine works on batteries; I have been using the product for a month and half now and didn’t have to change the batteries yet.

The product comes with a stand, a brush cap, two batteries and a travel pouch.

I have used the travel pouch and it is very convenient.

The product itself is very cute, it is a cute little blue thing. Really adorable! The design is also such that it very easy to hold.

I have noticed that my skin feels soft. It also enables blood circulation and thus after using it, I have noticed that my skin feels tight, I don’t know if I am using the right word here, but it makes the skin firm in a way that it feels like it is ensuring that my skin doesn’t sag or create wrinkles.

It has helped me curb my acne as well. I used to get acne and pimples at odd places, ever since I have started using this, it has curbed it a lot.  I now get one or two pimples around the time I get my periods, but other than that, my face more or less is clear. It has also helped me keep blackheads and whiteheads away.

You can use this twice a day, but I prefer to use it only once, at the end of the day.

You need to change the brush heads every few months, you can buy the brush head online.

I have loved the product and I think I am going to use it for a long time now.

Buy It From Here:

As on their website:
SkinPro Cleansing System is an effective 2-speed powered cleansing brush that deeply cleanses and gently massages the skin. Removing more dirt, makeup and oils than manual cleansing resulting in visibly smoother, more radiant skin with a more even skin tone**.

Summer Hacks To Make Your Life Easy

Use that refrigerator
Put your night cream, moisturiser, eye cream in the fridge. It will keep it cool and will give you a cooling effect every night. It really is soothing and feels amazing on the skin.

If you suffer from sun burn, then chill some Aloe vera gel in the fridge and use it every night on the burnt area. Aloe has a natural soothing effect and with the chilling, it will provide you some extra cooling.

Keep a spray bottle filled with water in the fridge, just spray it on your face for a cooling effect. I have a spray bottle in my bag all the time, so if I have a long day, a quick spray is a good pick-me-up. You can add some rose water or green tea water in it as well.

The summer heat can melt your lipstick, just pop it in the fridge and it will get back in shape.

Deodorant Hack
Apply a little bit of deodorant on your neck, this will keep you sweat free, won’t mess up the hair around your neck area and will add some fragrance every time you move your hair.

I haven’t tried this one personally but have heard about this from a couple of friends, applying deodorant on your thighs will prevent them from chafing. If you try this, please do let me know if it works. You can comment below or tweet to me at @poojamahimkar or just click on www.twitter.com/poojamahimkar

Ice Ice Water!
Rub an ice cube on your face before applying makeup. It closes your pores, works as a primer and refreshes your skin and makes sure that you makeup stays on perfect for a longer time.

Apply a cold towel to ankles, behind the knees, wrists, inside elbows or temples, this can easily lower your body temperature. These pulse points are areas where the blood vessels are closest to your skin. So keeping them cool with a cold compress or pouring water on them will quickly lower your blood temperature and your entire body will cool off.

Weekend Away at Radisson Blu Resort and Spa in Alibaug | Weekend Away Near Mumbai and Pune

Stone’s throw away from Mumbai, Alibaug is the ideal place to go to when you wish to get some beach time. It’s like a mini Goa right in your backyard. On my recent trip to Alibaug though, I gave beaches a miss and spent all my time pampering myself.
I went to Radisson Blu Resort and Spa in Alibaug. I was looking forward to a relaxing weekend away and this was an ideal place. The place is around a three hour drive away from Mumbai and every aspect of the place speaks ‘Luxury’.
We had opted for a Lake View Villa, which had a gorgeous view of the lake, a spacious living area along and upstairs was the bedroom and the bathroom with a bathtub. The Villas are right opposite the pool so every morning you could just get out of the room and get into the pool. The pool is huge and dominates the resort. I noticed that there are rooms which are attached to the pool, so you don’t even have to get out of your room, you can just dive into the pool from your room itself!
Most of the other rooms have been designed in such a way that they all have their unique features and view. You won’t be disappointed with your room.
The place is calm and relaxing, I didn’t even think once of getting out of the resort, there was so much to do right there!
They have a gym, library, outdoor sports area, indoor sports area, discotheque, piano lounge etc.
We reached here on Saturday evening, after checking into our room and relaxing for a bit we headed out for a walk. I noticed that they have religious place of worship as well in the resort. After the walk, we headed for dinner. They have buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at Aparanta. The spread was nice and had a lot of options; my favorite of course was the dessert counter. They also have a Jain section. The dishes change every day so you have tons of options and variety each day.

We spent most of our day 2 in the pool, it can get a little hot in the afternoon and thus I scheduled a spa appointment at that time. I also tried my hand at Lawn Tennis but didn’t do very well at that. They provide you with all the supplies you need for the game so you don’t have to carry anything with you. They also rent you a bicycle if you are into biking.
For the spa, I opted for a full body orange and lemon scrub and a full body deep tissue massage. The massage rooms are spacious and calming. The minute you step into the massage zone, the calming music and the aroma will you at ease. The scrub and the massage, both, were relaxing and I didn’t want it to stop. The masseuse applied the right pressure to help me with my stiff back and knots.
For dinner, we decided to skip the buffet and head to Kokum and Spice.  The place specializes in sea food and serves only Malwani, Goan and Manglorean cuisine.
We opted for a Malwani Bombil starter and Goan Vindaloo with Manglorean Neer Dosa, a little bit from every cuisine you see. The food didn’t disappoint us.  The vibe of the restaurant is also very calm and quiet and will be perfect for a dinner date or if you are celebrating something special.
In the piano lounge, they play piano live every evening. You can choose to chill here with a few cocktails. Above the piano lounge is a cozy little discotheque.  Perfect isn’t it? Piano, cocktails and then dancing.

We headed back to the room after that. The check-out time is 12.30 pm, giving you enough time to pack your bags, have a nice breakfast and then head home. Which is exactly what we did.
The stay here was perfect and I look forward to going here again. It can be perfect you want a few days away from work and the hectic city life. The fact that the resort itself has so much to offer helped as I didn’t get bored for a second, there was always something to look forward to.
